Default Should the sniper/s get the death penalty - 10-25-2002, 10:05 AM

I believe they should, they've taken the lives away from to many people to deserve to live on taxpayer money watching cable and reading books in the prison library. It would be nice if they could have slow agonizing deaths but hey I guess the gas chamber will have to do. Killers like these guys dont deserve to live, they just end up with movies about them and writing letters to news programs, continuing to get the attention they crave.

Living rest of the life in prison is worse than death. Especially to that kid.

Not really, at least not here prisons are pretty lax. If they get life they need to be in a place with Alcatraz like conditions.

Sorry Green. I do not believe taking another human life can be justified in any way. We live in a world were revenge has become the driving force. I do believe that a person guilty of a crime as bad as this shoul go to prison for life, no chance of parole. But I also believe that his time in prison should be hell on earth. Torture, sure.. But since I don't believe in "Heaven/Hell" death would way out for the person.

I've never thought of that angle before, Low spark. Thanks for opening my eyes a little bit.

I think the whole penal system needs to be overhauled so in regards to the sniper...???? I do know we haven't seen the last of him. The media and, god forbid, Hollywood will have a hard time letting this one go.

Low Spark.....while i respect your views, i disagree. This is a classic case of where the death penalty should be instituted. These individuals committed murder in different states, crossed state lines with the murder weapon, committed murder while in the commission of a felony (the Alabama robbery), and probably broke many other laws that i'm not aware of.
As far as living life in prison, thats a cake walk. Have you even been inside a prison before? The prisoners are afforded 3 square meals a day, free medical & dental, recreation, religious services, alcohol & drug rehabilitation, visitation, television, work programs, law library, commissary, mental health services, and protection.....yes, protection. Life in prison isn't all that bad. Don't believe what you see on TV and what ex-cons say about prison. They play cards and watch football all day and say they had a horrible experience when they get released. And how do i know all of this?....well, lets just say i work in an enviorment where i get a chance to see all of this from time to time.
As far as being tortured, that'll never happen. I can see it now, some Correction Officer is gonna torture an inmate so he/she can lose their house and family over it!! NOT!! The people who work inside prisons are ordinary people trying to make a living...not some rogue bunch who specialize in the torture of inmates. The Officers are there to keep a lid on the place and to make sure inmates get what they are entitled to by law.
The best punishment for these clowns would be to sit on deathrow confined from other inmates waiting to die. Who cares if it takes 10 years....they'll eventually die because of their crimes.

The world is my urinal

No, I don't care how cushy prison seems, when you become someone's
b!tch and the raping starts, you can't be very happy.

Also, it costs almost as much to put someone to death as it does to support a life sentence in prison. Most of the added cost is due to the appeals that take place because of the death sentence. I saw this on 60 minutes I believe, but I will try and find it somewhere on the net.

funny how the same people who defend the Chechen terrorists also speak out against doing away with the "sniper" (and I use this term loosly)

Defending terrorism, and trying to understand terrorism are two different things. Know your enemy. If you read my posts carefully, nowhere will you see myself saying that the Chechnyan terrorists are in the right. But that is a different thread.

Go ahead, execute the guy, makes no difference to me. Let's punish killing with killing. Anyone see a cycle?
