ATTENTION EVERYONE** Spearhead Hosting to cost more then MOH -
11-20-2002, 10:44 AM
I operate a couple of moh servers.. One being spearhead through art of war.. I just got word they will be increasing the cost to 10$ a slot..
This is just to rich for our blood.. I called a couple of other hosts and they are all becomming aware of the problem "Spearhead requires more CPU recsources" so all hosts will be charging more for spearhead hosting then for MOH hosting...
What does this mean for us? Will this kill off spearhead? Any admins here have any feedback on the subject?

Did you know that SH takes up 1,890.00 MB on your computer.

Sounds like BS to me. You know how they say a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link? Well the whole client/server game is only as fast as it's slowest link, in this case the Internet. So what if the executable takes up a bit more resources, even on a Win32 machine I doubt if it'd stop you from running the same number of servers you could with MoHAA on a single box .

Check http://www.xgamerservers.com
They state they will not increase the price. they however will charge a one time 10 upgrade charge to go from current MOH customers to SH

I have a dedicated business dsl line at my house that i no longer use. I ran a dedicated MOHAA server from there for months and was running a SH demo server and then Full when it came out, just shut it down last night. But both seemed to run the same, really good.I assumed that if it took so much more bandwidth like they say that I would have noticed a diff, but none here.

hey dummy, spearhead doesn't take up 1.85, thats the WHOLE game, mohaa being 2/3 of it.
sh doesn't run much slower than mohaa, if you can't run a game with the q3 engine smooth nowadays, then you know its time to upgrade. because with the new unreal2 engine, and the doom3 engine, your computer will be useless unless you get with the times.

Is it me or do these companies like pulling down your pants, bending you over the table and aiming for penetration? $10 for an installation that takes about 3 minutes?

well word is after talking to different hosts.. some will and some will not raise the price for spearhead.. but don't count on that... xtremegame servers , art of ware are saying for sure they will.. Art of war jacked it up to 10 a slot.. and Ilan left itself open to jack up the prices at a later date. I hoep this isn't viewed by hosting companies like Opec views a chance to hike oil prices...
In any event... By extra resources I don't mean bandwith I am told they are refering to CPU usage.. Spearhead takes more CPU usuage.. Ilan pointed out to me over the phone "yea thats probably because those hosts were already maxing out their servers"
hmmmmmm
