Default Anyone remember this old moh preview movie? - 01-24-2003, 09:14 AM

I dload it from gamespot and upped it to my webspace so u dont have to subscribe

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gerald.mar ... c_1_wm.zip

27,3mb

Shows the omaha beach invasion with the player going prone on the ground, also shows the better movement system they had, insead of your gun remaining constant in one position on the screen it moves about quite a lot to more or less simulate you cahracter actually moving his arms around instead of them being stuck in the one position.

Also shows the big ass bridge level that got scrapped a it exceeded the quake 3 engine map size ed:. Along with an alternate version of snipertown showing the tank crew actualy getting into the tank, the reason that was scrapped however was it was possible to kill em all before the tank crew got into the tank which would screw up one of the scripted sequences.

Other few things of note are the alternate weapons sounds such as the m1-garand and the 03 rifle, as well as the reloading sound for the garand.

Just shows how much we were drooling over this game back then, then a lot of stuf including PRONE got scrapped because of ea and time limitations.

I ripped the garand firing sound\reload sound and the springfield sound effect into my texture\sound pack which u can get here if u want.

Wasnt able to see the vid (56k) but i didnt realise so much was scrapped.
Seems like such a waste. The sniper level was crap anyway, virtually impossible to do first time without dieing because of them shooting at you before youre even in their sights hake:

I remember the whole fuss kicked up when prone was scrapped, but why exactly was it abandoned? if its in the preview vid how come it couldnt be kept in the game?

Well in the preview vid it shows the prone position with the garand, from what we were told they only had it done for the garand and to animate it for the rest of the weapons would take over a month alone so thats why it was scrapped.

Pretty lame excuse imo, prone position woulda made this game feel a bit more like a ww2 game and not quake 3 with ww2 weapons.

heh, pretty much. Every step is basically a day of coding. I guess they don't have the time. hake:

But Gerard is exactly right, I wish they implemented some more WWII tatics like prone into the game. It really is like a Q3 game with WWII weapons.

Just watched it: Now I know where that pic in PC Gamer came from when the guy was on Omaha and the Gerand was dead-center. That sucks that you can't go prone. hake:

AS for the sounds, they changed alot of em, not just the reload for the gerand, but the firing too. The firing for the Springfeld sound and the reloading of the thompson was different too.

I put those sounds into my pack above, well aside from the tommy reload which was just the garand reload sound effect.

Id love to get my hands on an old version of moh, i love that weapons bob thing, the way the guns not fully onscreen when moving. Makes it seem more realistic in a way than having the gun bolted to the screen constantly.

It seems that way would favor realism more as it looked as though to snipe u had to stand still so the rifle would appear on the screen.

Would be interesting to see what different way some of the missions were scripted as well.

is that one of the early videos in wich the death animations were extremely poor? the allies would fall flat on their faces very quickly with no change to other parts of bodies?

Kind off, the deaths are sorta hard to see in this as theres only a couple that happen close on omaha.
