Gary Gordan and Randy Shughart -
02-02-2003, 07:26 AM
God damn, I just watched Black Hawk Down for the 3rd time and found myself sobbing to myself as these two brave Delta Snipers lives are ended. Gawd, it makes me feel so insignificant. Haunting
My dad really is against U.S policy and stuff, and I keep trying to convince him to see this film or read the novel, but he does the whole "blind eye" thing. What can I do ?? I love my dad dearly, but fuck, he has to see this. Should I just confront him and say, "Look, Dad, sit your ass down and watching this fucking film" or something else ?
I'm sure you're all saying, "How ghey, he cries", or "How ghey, he sux teh cok" or something to that extent, but could you atleast have the decency to not say that here.

Yeah, my mum's alot like that, with the whole Blind Eye thing
Me: "States random fact about World War 2"
Mum: "it's because of people like you that wars start"
Me: "You're absolutely right, we should have let the nazi's run all over Europe..."
*Slanging match ensues*
anyways, enough of my home-life shenanigans oOo:
I would suggest trying to tell him that in many cases the troops are as hard-done by as the people they're there to get, and that the troops aren't responsible for poor leadership, and use the movie as evidence, of sorts.
That would be my suggestion. Hope some of it made sense. biggrin:

Heheh, thanks man But no, no sense could be found...
My mum watched the first 5 minutes of BHD, and was like, "Y'know, I'll watch this film tommorow, looks good"... Then I was watching a later part of the film, y'know, one of the bits where they're fighting, and she's all like "I don't want to watch an all fighting movie"... K oOo:

Does the film have to be BHD, specifically? From what i remember, The Thin Red Line showed the human side of war pretty well.

Oh yeh man, I loved TTRL, one of my favourites, and Dad did too because it showed how fucked up the command could be. My mum sat through most of it, and seemed to like it.
I was just thinking BHD because it's modern war, y'know, and all that that implies... oOo:

Tell your dad that BHD explores the same fubar command issues that TRL did, but on a more modern scale, or something. Make sure you point out that it's Command that fucks up, because he's more likely to watch a movie that confirms his beliefs.

The movie was an excellent portrail, but the one thing that disappointed me was the sound effects. They were really not like the real thing at all. he most realistic weapons Ive heard in the movies was the movie Heat (Val Kilmer, Al Pacino, Robert DeNero).
