Default Some MOHAA Comp Problems - 02-02-2003, 02:50 AM

Sometimes, though it feels frequently, that while I'm playing MOH online for more then a few hours (say, four or more) it has a tendency to freeze with a high pitched whine. No Alt-Tab, Esc, Windows Button, Alt-Ctrl-Del, etc. Restart is necessary. It doesn't happen all the time, but I'd wager at least twice a week lately. Would any of you be able to help me in finding and getting rid of this problem?

Heh. The cover is off, unfortunately. See, a few semesters ago some fruit punch spilled onto the case, making it very sticky (still to this day, after a wipe down) and hard to open. I also haven't figured out the correct CDROM jumper settings so my DVDROM and CDRW can coexist, and be recognized peacefully in DEVICE MANAGER. I keep telling myself to get one of my more knowledgable friends to figger it out for me ...

I have heard that leaving a case open makes it quite poor for air circulation (cold in, hot out) but I'm not sure if thats applicable in this case either, as the PCs in the basement and with that nasty cold snap in the North East, quite brisk and chilly most of the time.

For all I know, it could be my comp overheating from too many components jammed into the case (1x40GB 7.2K, 1x80GB 5.4K, 1x120GB 7.2K)

Durrr. Whoops. WinXP, NVIDA GeForce3 Ti200 64MB. I can't recall the exact driver version, but I remember a few weeks ago I did update it to the latest drivers according to the NVIDA website, as well as another patch a week later for (I'm guessing) misc WinXP and NVIDA compatability problems (It was a seperate patch; I think I did it as a followup of reading something on a SimCity4 forum).

By the way, it just happened again. It froze after I spawned, and (to clarify) a clipped sound looped. For all I knew it could've been me running or a bullet firing but it repeated constantly. I restarted, started up gamespy, joined another game, and while loading it happened again too. D'oh!

Could usermade downloaded files be at fault here either? I have a wide range of skins, maps, and a sound pack.

Thanks for expressing interest Bjoe!

Anythings possible. Clear out ALL custom files (maps/skins/mods) and put them in some other folder. Boot up MOH, play on a server with stock maps, or the maps its been happening on, and see if it still happens, make sure to play for like a 1/2 hour, and join a few servers, to test this.

Joe mine has been doing this since day one of this game. I'm running an overclocked system and I've figured out by process of ilimation, that it is a heat and voltage issue. I have to run my system about 150-200mzhs lower to avoid any issues with Mohaa. I have had issues with bad drivers too so you might want to check into that. I saw you in our server (Phoenix Force) the other day Joe, nice to have ya.
