Accually it was the MP43 when it was first released(in 1943). Hitler renamed to Sturmgewehr 44 in 1944 when he accept the design. As for MP44... there is no such thing.

Accaully since it was produced mostly in 1944 it was probaly given the unofficial name of MP44. oOo:
