what do i need to start skinning

I decided to try making my own skins rather than asking people to do them, what programs do you suggest I use for the best skinning?

Paint shop Pro if you've never used a paint program before. Photoshop if you know how to use it.

Thanks, I am good with Photoshop... All i need is one program? Arent there different face packs and stuff?

Thanks a lot Guarnere.... I am trying to get at the files but they all show up at .tga, is that supposed to happen? This is confusing stuff, but once I get it i'll be a happy camper. Email me at 1stPTC@charter.net or reply to this on here.. thanks.

I also got Paint Shop Pro, but it sucks big time. I know how to use Adobe Photoshop good but I dont have it, or atleast can't find it. Packscape is confusing me, I had Picture It, 2002 and the stuff in packscape showed up there, but i uninstalled it because i hate picture it. Now they are only showing up as .tga or something like that. Can you please walk me though making a simple skin just so I am not so confused.

open the .tga files with

Photoshop or Irfanview ( http://www.irfanview.com/ )...

open the .tik files and .shader with notepad...
