ok, after the external cable thing (box thing that's connected to computer is hooked on what is it hooked onto? like what componet in the pc is is supposed to be hooked onto? is it the lan card or what?

some cable modems hook up to your pc through a usb port as well

Wait a sec, you have me confused. Are you saying you just got cable and don't know how to hook it up?
If thats the case, we'll assume you have a computer (not a laptop) and a wired cable modem (not a wireless). You'll need to have the cable come into your house and into the modem. Then, from the modem, you'll need a "Cat 5" cable going into your computer via an ethernet card.
And thats it bubba....welcome to broadband.

can a workstation. or server. the ones that have like a huge tower use cable or are they programed to be networking computers(non cable or dialup)

put the cable in the cable hole in the modem, put the AC adapter in the adapter hole, then put the 10-base-T cable (looks like oversized phone cable) into the 10-base-T hole in the modem and the other end in the ethernet adapter.

ok i glued the hole and wire together now i'm goona weld the pc ethernet thing with the line connected to it. now what do i do?
