too hot?

ok, iv got my athalon 2600 running right now (about 2.1ghz) anyways its awsome, now iv just been pushing it hard (vietcong & bf for about an hour). its 59'C. is that getting too hot?

Yes 59 is too hot for an athlon. The highest you should be getting it MAX is about 50.

the computer is set to shut down when it gets too hot though. i thought for some reason it was 65

ok, iv just been surfing around the ent for 10 min then checked the temp again. its dropped down to 53'C

AMD always run hot

mines also set to shut down at 65, the norm temp on a 30 degree C day is about 59 - during winter its about 54 or so - only in an airconditioned environment will it run at 50 (really damn cold aircon too)

Ya iv heard AMDs are common to get hot if its a problem you could probly get a cooling fan for it

59 is a bit onthe warm side, but within specs.

AMD sets a max temp at 70. I have mine set to shut down at 65. The hottest I get is around 55 under full load like gaming and i run around 45-50 at idle. I think mine is a bit hot, but I dont have the breeziest case, and I try to keep mine quiet.

If you are concerned, you need to check on your airflow. Dont put your pc in a closed in shelf, turn your fans up if you can, add fans to your case if you can, clean up the cables inside you case, etc.

Is you heatsink/fan stock? Did they come with the cpu? If so, they are sub-standard for athalons. Consider upgrading you cpu cooling.

OK just to clarify, top corner and not your powersupply fans? How many case fan mounts do you have? They are the square things with holes/grills in the middle.

You should have a mount for a front case fan near the bottom in the front. I would install one there, blowing in. They arent expensive, but hte more you spend, generally the quieter they are. Pabst makes good quiet fans but are a bit pricey. You are going to want a 80mmfan. Read your mobo manual to find out where to hook up the power and probably a fan monitor.

You can even get led fans for $10 and cold cathode for less than $15.

its the power supply fan.im still paying it off right now but in a few weeks il hook anonther fan up to it. thanks for all the help freak:

I would keep a close eye on your temps if you are running with no case fans. If temps look like they are getting too high, open the case. If you are running at 59 underload with not case fans, you should run much cooler with them, and you shouldnt have to turn them up too high which will keep your noise down. I would look for a pair of fans with variable speed controls. Mount one on the front blowing in and one on the back blowing out.
