Sometimes when i tyr to play them, they load corrctltly, but others they not load correctly and the clasic WIN XP error messagge appears and the the game crashes; the same thing happens with almost thes six downloaded maps. Sometimes load fine and others simply cause the error. Any ideas?

i think that you shouldn't download anything until you figure this out, it could screw your computer up

something similar has happened to me, and it screwed up my comp until i fixed it

i never did find the crashing prob, i just stopped dling stuff so much

Default Downloaded Maps - 10-17-2003, 06:40 AM

1. Download Maps for MOHAA only - Watch out for Spearhead maps, they will not run and could crash your computer.

2. Only put in 1 map at a time in your MOHAA/Main folder. Also be watchful that you also put in the sound files in the correct sound folder if they are present.

3. Be carefull of downloaded maps that have z-xxx.pk3 or zzzzz-xxxx.pk3 as these files are read by MOHAA first and affect your sound, guns, skins etc. In other words like city nights with zzzzz-cn2.pk3 it just about changes everything in your basic MOHAA. That really sucks.

I have over 490 MOHAA maps available in my MAIN folder including many Single Player Games and Bot Games. My MOHAA runs without a problem.

1. Wrong. I have easily over a hundred maps in my main folder, mostly SH maps, and they all work fine. Granted, some maps were made better than others, but none of them should crash your entire PC.

2. Not a bad idea. It makes troubleshooting easier.

3. Wrong. The reason they are named with Zzzz is so mohaa reads them LAST. Alphabetical order dude. Besides, you can rename the pk3 files to whatever you want since mohaa looks for the bsp file within the pk3, not the name of the pk3 itself.

There are so many maps out there that if these six aren't too near and dear to your heart just delete them and find some new ones. But in all honesty, based on my experiences with mohaa, I think you have a bigger problem with your PC than mohaa maps.

QUESTION:
What if I did just want to edit the ubersound.scr, how would I make MOHAA use the ubersound.scr in my pak file instead of the standard one in MOHAA?

ANSWER:
Simply make sure the filename of your pak has a later order in the alphabet than the stock paks. For instance prefix a 'z' (or more ).

Like: zzzysquick.pk3

This is quoted often on MOHADMIN.com in the forums. It works for me all the time. zzzz BEFORE a file makes MOHAA read that file first. That is why you see ubersound mods always prefixed with zzz's.

Even the ubersound fix executable when run generates a file named z.pk3

Maybe someone else can explain it better than me. Although your thought of alphabetical order does sound right, it ain't always so with computer programming.

Read that again. It's saying that in order for user-created files to work they must come AFTER the stock files.

Why? So mohaa will load them last. This ensures mohaa will load all the stock files first, then modify them by loading the "Zzzz" or "User" files last. If the downloaded files were loaded first followed by the stock files the mod would not work... since the stock files would replace the modified ones upon being loaded.

Correct. Now thats simple. Last to load & overwrites any other coding. Thanks for the catch up.
