Default More Computer Troubles - 10-19-2003, 01:29 AM

Yea so my comp's been acting up alot these last few days, giving me some error messages on a few programs and such, but nothing too major. I was having problems with BF and DC where they'd load half way and then crash to desktop with no error message of any sort just almost fully loaded then crash. IRC gave me probs of it always crashing which it has never done. I was getting errors with my steam program where it would crash or totally freeze. Perplexed by this I ran a full virus scan but no viruses were found. I decided to uninstall then install Steam so I uninstalled Steam then found my saved .exe file of it and tried reinstalling. When I did it gave me an error message saying it was corrupted which was weird. So I thought 'okay, lemme try reinstalling EoD since the models in that were fucked for some reason' so I found my .exe of that and of course said that was corrupted. I redownloaded both of those from diffrent sites than before and when I tried again it said both of the .exe's were corrupted. I defragged, disk cleaned and even went as far as deleting all my porn but still to no avail. When I restart my computer it says somtin like the old scandisk on 98 used to do. This is all really odd and if anyone can point me in a right direction or link it'd be appreciated.

You have all the latest hotfixes?

Did you try updating your mobo's BIOS?

You never know.

You just did a total reformat?

If so, i recommend Microsofts Knowledge Base for the error you're getting.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... US;KBHOWTO

Just type your error in the search field.

Here's a page that explains the .cab file:

okay well I found the problem. Apparently the install program that most of the games use don't wanna work with my XP which is odd. They always worked before but all of sudden decided not to. Now I gotta figure how to fix it.
