Recently there's been a lot of negativity surrounding the game and the comments are generally posted by individuals who neglect to explain their dissatisfaction. This has caused many who have yet to even play the game a lot of grief. I know nearly all you here have been waiting for the game with the upmost anticipation.
Unfortunately, that's part of the problem itself. I'm not really much of a gamer, console or PC, but I love FPS, and never have I seen so much interest and hype in a game that no one had played. This has given rise to unrealistic expectations. While some look for a historically accurate and ultra-realistic combat sim, others look for an enjoyable action game, and others yet want a combination of both. It's impossible to please everybody and the bitching and whinning that's been prevelant around here is witness to that.
What we got is a typical FPS action game with elements of realism meant to enrich the player's experience and engross him even more.
Now, I'm really enjoying this game on a whole - both SP and MP. I've finished the SP and I'm finding the MP to be quite good fun. It's easy to waste hours racking up frags and blowing up bridges. Some of the SP missions are just sweet, like Omaha, Sniper Alley, and the one were you have to disguise yourself as a German and show your papers. There's nothing really revolutionary offered in either case, but what is there is an improvement - awesome audio effects, voice acting, smoke and explosion effects, and superbly detailed character models to name just a few. We've all read the reviews and we know what shines.
Amd obviously the game does have it's problems, such as inconsistencies in character development and plot (Why would an OSS operative storm Omaha?), minor clipping issues for instance, and a criminally bad ending. Still, any other complaints come not from poor development, but disappointment steming from unrealistic expectations. Honestly, some of you war and history buffs are unnecessarily picking this game apart. It's a videogame, guys.
I have some gripes myself, lack of realistic blood and model damage and for instance. Sure there is more of specific things I would have liked and less of others, but I'm extremely happy with what I got - a great game that makes up for the disappointing RTCW.
Hopefully 2015 will address some of the bigger issues and perhaps release add-on's and patches, but what really excites me is the wicked community that has developed. Surely we can look forward to some really cool mods, etc. As it stands now, MOHAA is one of my favourite games, right up there with Doom and Half-Life.
See you all online.
