You know why this is a good film? Because it's independent. I have no problem with saying that almost every single independent/indie movie is good. Why? Because these people don't have a ton of money or fame, but they make films because they have something to say on a topic that is important to them. Everyone involved is there for the film itself, and not the rewards, buecause they don't get recgonized. Just a few like this actually make it bigtime. most are just washed away, which is sad because 99% of them are so much better than the crap hollywood puts out.

I went to 3 films at the Calgary International Film Festival this past September and they were three of the best films i've seen in a long time. They each have a story to tell, and do it better than someone getting paid millions to put out a production.

This particular film didn't come to this years festival here, but it was at Toronto. If a Film Festival comes to your town, grab a few tickets and go to a couple shows. They are all compelling, and breath taking in their own way, much like this one seems.

Foreign films are also good, they dont have the Hollywood hype, and actually have good plots.

All three films I saw at the CIFF were foreign.

One was from the UK called "American Cousins" which was a halarious Comedy.

The second was "Roses Song" which was from Hungary and although slow, was one of the most compelling and beautiful films i've seen.

The third was "Gloomy Sunday" a German film from 99' based on the real life song by that title that actually had people killing themselves while listening to it. Even the composer killed himself in real life. This film was amazing. The best that I saw at the Festival. Next year i'll be buying a pass so I can go to as many shows as I can.

a bit of an over-generalization. some foriegn films are good.... Following, Amelie, Run Lola Run, etc.
Have you ever seen some of Jackie Chans' made-in-chine movies? Or 98% of the crap from Bollywood? Ever watched some movies on the spanish channel? Most of the foreign films I've seen were crap, but most movies coming out in the states are also crap. I am a big fan of the ol independent movies, and i'd love to go to a film festival.
