Ok.
1st off good choice , Tahoes are great.
I also have one. Mines a 1999 fully loaded , extra low miles. Got it for 14K , out the door.
If you are gonna buy a truck like that I suggest you go used. Mainly because of the 30K price differance.
New vehicles drop about 10% of their value every year until they are worth only about 40% of what was originally paid for them.
A new truck like that runs at about 45K or more depending on where you get it.
Now if you have decided to go used from what I have told you , hit Consumer Reports. I don't know the link but I'm sure you can find them. They have great tips for making sure you are not buying a bad truck.
The price factors for used veicles include:
1. Milage. If a veicle has more miles on it than what is projected , it's vallue is less. For instance... The standard is 30,000 a year. If you buy a veicle with 90,000 miles on it and it's only a year old , you are likely to get one hell of a deal on it.
2. Dealership maintanance. A veicle that has been on the lot for 6 months or more is a liability for the dealership. The costs of dailly cleanings , test drive gas , ect. has extended the profit margin. Thats why dealerships have sales to get rid of last years cars. Also holds true for used cars.
3. Delivery fees. You see this on new cars , but it is a factor for used as well. It costs about $100- $500 to have a car delivered to the dealership. Nothing can be done about that because the guy who brings it has to get paid. Now you may say , what about trade ins? Most cars that come from Trade ins are taken to Auction. However that is also where the dealership gets most of their used cars.
4. Invoice. With used cars it is impossible to say how much they paid for the car. They are going to sell it for what it is worth plus the above mentioned fees.
5. Sales force. The salesman will want to make something off of the sale. If you want tips for that just let me know and I can guide you to a win-win situation there.
