My only advice is one thing at a time. Don't try and learn it all right away. i would start skinning first before you map so you can learn howto use packscape.
Aright! good suggestion Cobra! ive tried ur maps i think they are good man! but a question, do i need some special program to skin? and were can i learn to skin? thnx!

You need Packscape which can be found in the Mappers Thread above in the sticky and an image enditing program thatcan create images with the etention .tga and .jpg.
You should get packscape then go get some skins and open them with it and look at how they did it. Most of the basic skins are reskins of the original mp ones but some have a file called a .tik which references models and player action animations. Take your time.
