Whatever happened to the LandWarrior System? -

I remember hearing about the land warrior system on the history channel at least a year ago. But now there is talk about OICW or something like that. So did they abandon the system or what? IMO the land warrior system seems like a better idea and alot cooler then the OICW. Heres a site on the LWS http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land ... arrior.htm

I agree that Land Warrior is better, because it can add on to the standard M-4 r M-16. If the system fails for some reason you still have a platoon of grunt that can shot their weapons using iron sights, if an OICW gun fails, the shooter can only fire from the hip like John Wayne (no iron sights whatsoever)

There two differant systems.
OICW is a weapons system. Land Warrior is a hardware/software package for soldiers to use for advanced data gathering and communication. Land Warrior can be adapted to fit onto any weapon, including OICW, because it simply has attachments to it, such as a touch pad that acts as a mouse.

I think you mean 5.56. Ive never heard of 5.54. Also, just from looks, the OICW looks like the gayest weapon ever made. Personally Id be embarassed to take that weapon into combat.

even with the 5.56mm round it would be effective if they kept a longer barrel.
I read somewhere that the rifle barrel is 2" shorter than an M-4 barrel, so accuracy probably goes out the window beyond 300 meters.

the oicw is suposed to sport some fancy electronic aiming system, infared/night vision scope and the ability to fire 20 mm smart he rounds...its definitly going to be better then its only real rival the hk g36.

Indeed, looks like some laser assault rifle gun from a Star Trek movie...
