Default Hurray for computer problems! - 08-05-2004, 01:43 PM

I suppose this error started about 3 days ago when I downloaded a screen saver and inadvertanly dl'd some spyware with it! Everything seemed dandy till one day I got alt-tab'd out of Star Wars Galaxies and got a fatal 'blue screen of death'! It was spouting about something called 'kernal' and hardware. I ran adaware, rolled it back a few days and it seemed smooth again. Once more I got the error, about kernal and blue screen. I got it twice today, within and hour and had a bitch of a time restarting the comp. Now when I switch webpages it'll freeze for a min, not bring up the error, and you'll hear what I think is my harddrive making a funny zooming/vrooming noise. I think it's my HDD that's just dieing but I was hoping to get some input from you lovely folks, or victims of this in the past.

in all fairness, it was a Boba Fett screensaver...the amount of ass kicking far surpassed all other concerns! Anywho, well go figure I save up enough cash for a video card, only to have the HDD crap out now and gotta put cash on that...It's even making a neat squeeking sound now!

I got xp

I think I've temporarily solved the prob. Luckily I kept a 20gig HDD with xp on it and everything seems fine for the time being. Looks like I gotta go get a new HDD but thanks for the input.

Sounds like your HD died on you. Does it still fall under the manufacturers warranty? If possible, start backing up your files now before it gets worse. heh, what galaxy do you play on SWG? I just started playing a little more than a month ago.

I seriously doubt your HD is failing. Find the manufacturer of the HD and download the run the utility.

I work at a computer store, fixing busted computers. In all my time doing this, I've seen 2 bad hard drives. Ever.

Sounds like your installation of XP is fooked. Reinstall it. Best bet is a format and reinstall.

dont use screensavers
theres really no need for them on modern monitors, only the old old model CRTs needed them.
