What Does Germany Think of America? -

So I'm talking to this German foreign exchange student and I had to find out how other countries really think of America. None of the Republicans spinning how much they love us or the Democrats spinning how they think we're all evil antichrists. Just straight up opinion.
Apparently, not only do Germans like Americans, they idolize them. While they generally consider them equally intelligent, they consider Americans to be hilariously undereducated in world culture (true).
Most of them view Americans as portrayed on Texas Walker (which is apparently huge there). Cowboys. Also, having an American accent in Germany is apparently the quickest way to be the coolest kid on your block.
They don't even really hate Bush, they just don't think he's very intelligent. But, unlike most Americans apparently, they realize that his position isn't all that powerful, and that American policy is generally shaped by Cabinet members and Congress. They also think Bush is a better leader than old Schroeder, which is also funny to me.
Anyway, just found it interesting.

I don't think there is much debate that most people like US citizens. I've been to the states many times. Probably more than 10 seperate occasions. I've been to probably 15-20 different states.
But the US effects the world, so everyone has an opinion on the government whether they want to or not.

I lived in Germany from 1998 - 2000, and even though that was a different time and global attitude then now, your right ALL the German people I spoke with really liked and appriciated American culture.

Of course . Why would they hate the people ? most hate for the US is directed towards the government. Not The people themselves.

So it's safe to say that Rammstein's song, Amerika, is not criticizing America, but kinda loving it?

Noctis, that's a pretty good obvservation. Two years ago we had German students from a Jazz Band stay with host families in Easton (my city). We hung out with them and they really seemed to like us alot. Baywatch and Walker: Texas Ranger is pretty big over there.
