Default Capturing MiniDV Video in Win2K - 11-17-2004, 09:04 AM

I was pulling my hair out last night, trying to get video off my new Sony HC20 Handycam. I wondered if you guys could help me out.

The Picture Package software that came with the MiniDV Handycam is terrible! I can create a slideshow of images, burn a VCD, and capture a video and have music put to it automatically...but there's no software included that allows me to just capture the video straight up! Drivin’ me insane!

Do you know how to do this?

I’m connecting the camera to the computer with USB. Do I require firewire or can USB2.0 be used for this? I burned a VCD last night and it looked like absolute dog shit on the TV. Could that be due to USB transfer? Would firewire make the quality better?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

As a newly employeed work of Circuity City i'm fairly sure you need a firewire for video. Firewire is more for video use. Also what is the magnification on the optical zoom of the cam? If you got one with low optical zoom you'll see a lot of digital distortion.

can you get the basic windows movie maker, because if you plug straight in from firewire you can record straight onto pc.
