The shield is not necessary. More fearmongering from threats that don't exist.

I actually watched an interview with a prof from MIT who said that the missile defence shield will not work a few months ago.

This is a HUGE issue in Canada as you may or may not know, Bush wants Canada to participate so he can integrate NATO and the shield, as well as probably place some things in Canada to shoot down the missiles.

The debate here has been going on for at least 8 months. The liberal government is on the fence. I think 58% of Canadians don't want the shield, with 16% undecided. The liberals keep saying, "we have to gather all the facts", but everyone knows their having a tough time saying no to the US, while probably most liberal MP's don't want the thing.

I don't know enough about the star wars program to comment on it... but how in the world can you combine NATO and defense systems?

I just mean Canada and the US would work on both NATO and the Shield, and if Canada doesn't sign on to the shield, we'll lose our control in NATO.

But also why wouldn't NATO and the missile defence be combined in some capacity? Protection from ballistic missiles and the ability to scramble jets? Seems like a no brrainer to me.
