Default Doom 3 on Xbox - 04-01-2005, 11:27 PM

I'm not sure if this is in the right spot. Its not military shooter so I put it here. Move accordingly....

I just played this game. It's not even out! I just played it over at my cousins house and I have to say, it's pure shit. You kill zombies quicker with a flashlight than a pistol. I turned lights out to add to the "scary" but it never happened. Nothing suprising, nothing jumpy. I wasn't much impressed. The graphics were decent but nothing to impressive. I didn't play the PC version so I wouldn't know what its like compared to it. I just posted this to let you guys know that the game isn't to good. And because I'm bored. freak:

The PC version was no different from what you describe.

Your cousin somehow warez it? Not sure if its possible with Xbox...

...What else do you expect? Its Doom. It was never meant to be anything revolutionary. No mind-numbing, gasping-for-air plot, no innovative new technique to play shooters...none of that. Just your standard, tried and true, run and gun, just as the original was. Im not saying this as what I think of Doom3 as, Im saying this as what the developers meant Doom3 to be. Nothing but run, gun, and lots and lots of blood.

I was sitting in the room and he hooked a cord up to the Xbox from his computer. Turned his Xbox on and did something on his computer and on the TV screen it said, "Now Uploading 'Doom 3'". He unplugged the cord, restarted the Xbox and loaded up the game just like that. Keep in mind he had a mod chip installed. The game played perfectly however it still sucked.

Now thats neat. I mean, Doom3 for Xbox isnt going to be released until the 14th, isnt it? H4xX0r w4Xx0R.

I liked Doom 3. It was nothing new, but I liked it. Yeah, Im obviously a fan-boy, but I just could not see what all these kiddies were thinking, bashing Doom 3 as nothing new. FFS, thats all it's supposed to be! I think its a horrible idea that they're releasing it for the Xbox, which half of the crowd is kids, and have no "gaming-timeline", as they havent played the classics. This is kinda considering me too, being 14, but Doom was my first videogame, as I played it around 5 years ago, when I was 9. But all these other kids, and not to be all too rascist, is a bunch of Mexican kids who wait in lines to play the Xbox demos at their local GameStop, have no idea what Doom is, or ever was, and will think of Doom3 as utter suckage, because, seeing a new graphics engine, automatically suspected it to be..something new and shiny, as are the graphics.

Doom was never about walking around in pitch black corridors with weak demons predicably spawning behind you.

Anyway, back semi-on topic, from what I've read X-Boxes are pretty easy to cupcake. Since pc games are "out there" a week before release at times it's not surprising.

I have played all the Doom's and I too started out playing Wolf 3D and Doom on PC. However, I'm not complaining much about the storyline. It wasn't great though. I just thought the overall gameplay sucked and the "scare" factor really wasn't there.

You're right about that, the darkness thing atleast. I found the first 8 levels to be the darkest of all...scared the crap out of me just wandering around with a flashlight, and hearing grunts in the corner, growing louder and louder (This is the first and only horror game I've every played, so I dont really have a standard of what to expect). After that, the levels seemed to lighten up, only occasionally being dark.

What I really hate is how people are so disgusted with the fact that monsters always popped out of secret doors. Christ, it was in the original Doom! You would be walking, and 7 doors slide up, all revealing imps, and...

..I think you guy's would like it better if I just STFU'd, huh? Im tired of talking, too.

Yeah, they are really worth modding to. You just set it up so you burn all your games into a HDD inside the Xbox and then sell the games. You still have them saved into your Xbox and can play them anytime while selling your old games and getting money from them. rock:

I got the demo, and knew this game was the suck. The gameplay was totally linear. I didnt see what was so great about the graphics, it looked like a bunch of shiny plastic smooth people and stuff. and that fuckin PDA thing got on my nerves after a while.

I found Doom 3 to be the best single player experience on PC that I have ever had. Story line was great, the lighting effects and graphics were fantastic, It was exactly what I wanted, a good run. Like any movie. I found it "WAS" a milestone in PC Gaming and Gaming in general. It beat HL2 to the whole new generation of graphics idea as well. I just think eeryone here over critiques it.

I played this game how it was meant to be played.

-Alone.
-1 AM
-Pitch Darkness
-Speakers turned all the way up.

In order to enjoy a game like "this" you have to get yourself into the whole mind state. THe mood created is amazing. Playing in the same "room" with your cousin on a XBOX is not how it was meant to be played. If you found it boring.. them quite frankly you can take yourself back to another CS 32 player server and mindlessly blast away for hours.

-Yes the game got "semi repetitive", but not to the point of any disatisfaction
-The lighting effects and visauls are yet to be matched. (Ya HL2 had better pyshics, but Doom 3 offered am uch better overall eye candy experience.
