Default Home Entertainment Dilemma - 05-03-2005, 08:37 AM

Ok, the decision that has to be made will affect my home entertainment experience in the foreseeable future... ed:

I'm torn between the following:

Bell Expressvu 5920 PVR System
http://www.bell.ca/shop/en_CA_ON/60567.details

or

Bell Expressvu 6120 HDTV System
http://www.bell.ca/shop/en_CA_ON/61065.details

As you probably know, I currently have a 50" rear projection LCD TV. I love the idea of recording shows on the PVR, but not having an HDTV box for my lovely TV is just a crime!

I'm leaning toward the HDTV receiver. What say you?

links work if you just click on an area like ontario.

So the PVR lets you record, but doesn't have HDTV and the HDTV does't let you record? That sucks.

I know shaw offers a box that records digitally without HDTV and one that records digitally with HDTV. Although shaw is cable, not sattelite.

I still think i'd go with the HDTV box though. Whats the point of having that awesome TV if you don't get every ounce of goodness out of it?

Get the HDTV system and build yourself a PVR in the near future.

I'm almost sure I'll go with the HDTV box.

Thanks for the input.

So, I called Bell....here's the scoop:

To switch to HDTV we would have to:
- buy a $160.00 upgrade kit (a special dish and a switch)
- buy the HDTV receiver for $299.00
- pay an extra $10 / month for HDTV service

To get a PVR:
- buy an $80.00 "multiplexer" from Bell
- buy the $299.00 PVR receiver from Bell

Man, this is an expensive racket!! An extra $10/month?!?! What kinda bullshit is that! I already pay those fucking leeches over $100/month for satellite, cell phone, and high speed access.

I dunno what I'm gonna do now. Goddammit. mad:

Rear projection isn't great HD anyhow. I'd say get the recording service because you can always watch DVD's in HD.

His is LCD rear-projection

I have a 51" Rear Projection TV and the HDTV is absolutely crystal clear. Saying it sucks is like saying Digital movie projectors are shitty because they are still projection. Do some research before talking out yer ass.

Zone, what kind of a racket do they have going there? I got my HDTV DVR receiver for an extra 6$ a month including the channels. I pay probably $100.00 for internet & digital cable w/ HDTV. I didn't buy the box because renting is the better option right now. I can record up to 20 hours of HD and 70-80 hours of regular programming.

Do you have any other options?
