Freedom! -
08-17-2005, 11:11 PM
This is it, real freedom. I turned in my resignation yesterday and have freed myself from the most unrewarding, boring and utterly life draining job I have ever had. I had to cover my mouth and let out some fake coughs to keep myself from laughing at my manager as I laid out the story.
Ive had this job for almost a year, and it was just one of those jobs where the money was just too easy to earn considering what your work actually consisted of. I just entered personal information into our student database......thats it. all day long, a sea of never ending lists of names, addresses and phone numbers gets keyed into the system. It was simple enough to not have any interaction with anyone and allow me to wear my headphones and just space out for 8 hours. That was really the only incentive other than getting paid $13 an hour.
My vacation was what made up my mind. I slowly phased out of college after i got my AA. My gf broke up with me, my dad had a series of never ending health problems and then my mom finally had to quit her job to take care of him. I had to put school off so that I could work more hours and help support my family. Last year i went with my ex friend to new york. this year we went to vancouver. it was really the best time i have ever had in my life. I have never taken a real vacation since i got out of the navy, so the last few years were nothing but work, women problems and wasting my years. i dont know what it was, but this last trip brought out the better part of me that wanted to better myself. my 'friend' goes traveling nearly 3 or 4 times a year whether its NY, Europe, San Francisco...you name it. Thats the life I should have been having this whole time, so when i got back last wednesday to my fuckin cube, i almost snapped. you could hear me typing all the way down the hall cause i kept smashing in those keys.
well ive decided that since my car is paid off and my visa is just about almost paid off, its time for me to gtfo and finish my shit.. i spent the weekend searching classes and this week, i registered for Cal State Fullerton for next spring and the local junior college to take some CIS classes ive always been interested in this fall. I have about 40 more units for graduation and this friday will be my last day (only gave them a few days notice) cause monday i start my programming courses. anyways, im really excited about this and i just thought i would share.
Im not too much of an attention whore so i wanted to ask if anyone here has any interesting job quitting/termination stories to tell?
damn it feels good to be a gangsta.

Hah, ironic you say this because my job is exactly the same as yours (other than you make $5 more an hour than me) and my last day is tomorrow. Going to cananda on friday then school starts the following week.
The only semi-interesting termination i had was when i worked at Circuit City as seasonal help. I basically outsold everyone in the store but since i was a seasonal worker, i never got any rewards or such. All the other employees didn't like me much because i dominated their sales. I said fuck em and eventually i was laid off because Christmas was over.

Now fuck your bosses wife.
... and KTOG, what does it mean to dominate other workers in sales? You are just better looking and know more so the customers want you? eek:

Good for you dude. Bust your ass in school, but be sure to have some fun too. I really want to walk into my bosses office and shit on his desk, but I can't afford to do that right at the moment, so I'll keep grinding away for a few more months. I'll be finished with my BBA after this semester, and I'll have 3 years of professional IT mgt experience under my belt. At that point, I'll either go to grad school or work on some other business projects I've been a part of for a while. Either way, I can't wait for a change. Good to hear you did something about it and got out of the cube.

yeah i need a fresh start, its been a hell of a month. i lost my friend, now im dumping my job. studying shouldnt be a problem because i wont have women or work on my mind, just studying and the occasional molesting of freshmen women in the library. im gonna look for a place to get a student loan just in case. anyone have any good suggestions? i applied for the FAFSA but i always get turned down for aide. i should have taken a loan out years ago.

Good story, i like the way you spun things around. Sometimes in life you need a lil' kick in the ass to get going. Screw that deadend job and screw that "friend" of yours. Perhaps she's what you needed to get motivated.
Worst job i had was back when i was a teen. Worked for some plumber. I couldn't stand that dirty lil' fucker. His van and tools were all shitty and thrown everywhere. After about 3 days with him, i cursed him for having such a mess in the van.....couldn't find shit so i told him when we have a slow day, i'm gonna straighten things so i can find things when i needed them. Anyway, that only lasted about a year before i told him to fuck off with his dirty life habits. Fucker used to eat a sandwich with dirty hands and chewed with his mouth open. I never ate lunch with him past the 1st week.
The world is my urinal

I dropped out of college last year because it was emotionally draining for me. I went on to get the basic computer cets (A+ and Network+) and was only able to find a 10 dollar an hour job dealing with rude asshole new yorkers. I now realise the dropping out of college was a big mistake so im going back this comping september. I only hope to god i have the will to stick through it and get a Bachelors. annoy:

Well Ive been at the same job for 3 years and have no reason to quit until I get a job in my field after univeristy because I get the hours I want and I like the people i work with, especially the chicks. Also since I got two new bosses instead of my first two ive been happier because the other two were bitches and the new ones are pretty cool.

I would never work a job just because it pays well during college. I bit the bullet and took this shitty $8 an hour job this summer because it is an office job that is almost in my field. When i go into an interview and they see it on a resume i'll be look at first instead of someone who has been a lifeguard for 3 years.
