For those of you who live outside of the US....
Has there been any requests from your governments to donate to the Hurricane relief for the people in New Orleans and southeast US?
I know that in the US, the red cross and FEMA are asking for individuals to donate to the relief effort, just as they did for the Tsunami that hit Asia.
I realize that the US is a wealthy country, but I was just curious what the international response will be, if any.
Also, personally would any of you donate if you had extra cash laying around?
Please keep the politics out of this thread. The poor bastards affected have little or nothing to do with the War in Iraq, etc.

Nope, I live near DC pretty close to the Chesapeake Bay. We've only had a few hurricanes come this far north.
I know a lot of people think that these people shouldn't live in a hurricane region, but I sympathize with them. Now, that's not to say that I sympathize with the people who will rebuild right on the beach.

because it's part French.. so the America-philes would donate to help American soil, while the Franco-philes will donate because NO is part french...

Why would Americans donate in mass to the Tsunami relief? Humanitarianism, perhaps?

Nothing down here about it. The U.S is a very rich country, whereas the asian countries hit by the Tsunami in most cases, really weren't - I understand that there was considerably more damage done there than in New Orleans as well....
If you're spending billions of dollars on a war you should be able to muster up a bit of cash to help your own people anyway....

because they couldnt afford to take care of themselves, people in New Orleans dont need international aide, its a waste of funds that could go elsewhere. The US and the other wealthier nations have a moral obligation to donate to people who are less fortunate than ourselves.

I agree 100%. I was just curious what the sentiment abroad was where donations to relief were concerned. I don't believe there is any obligation for foreigners to donate anything.
