Default New Laptop. - 10-05-2005, 12:55 AM

WELL, I was able to pickup a thinkpad off a connection @ school, 150 $ for an older one. SOlid, really nice and it came with a win2kpro cd key etc.

http://icioutlet.com/browseproducts/IBM ... APTOP.html

The difference is mine has 256mb of ram, and a 30gb HD... I am just wondering for the more computer savy people here is if this laptop can fit a new mobile video card inside.. it claims it has an agp 2x slot... BUT I am not sure, mine = IMB Thinkpad T22.

900mhz, 256mb, 30gb, S3 Savage 8 mb...(IS THIS THING INTERCHANGABLE, or built in ?).

also, The cpu only clocks in @ 697mhz.. FAR from thye 900 the bios reads. (windows clocks it @ 697)... SO how can I bring it up to its proper power.. or is it down clocked for a reason ???

Short, hate to do this to you but you should post your question here:

http://www.hardforum.com/

Look for the "Mobile Computing" forum and ask there. These guys are pretty good and you'll get an answer rather quickly.

it says on that page only 128mb ram

anyway about the cpu thing, i had a really crappy laptop back like 4 years ago and it was 700MHz. bios clocked it right but windows very often said it was running at speeds waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay below 700. sometimes it would say 400, 100, or even like 30. but i had win2k too, maybe its a bug in win2k?

No, you can't add a new video card. All laptops have them soldered in except the new alienwares, dell xps, etc.

Allot of laptops have a "feature" that clocks the processor down to save power / not generate as much heat etc. Check the BIOS and see if you can disable this feature might be listed as CPU throttling or something like "cool and quite" (except that's on AMD's not Intel).

It may be locked out in the BIOS or that may be the actual speed of the processor oOo:

you could use a program like CPU Burn (or prime 95, sisoft sandra burn it, etc) to push the processor then check the speed and see if it increases. I'm typing this on a laptop with a Pentium M 1.6 processor that’s running at 800mhz (lite load = cpu throttled back)
