That was the spark that lit the fuse, Jimmy. there has been building racial and religious tension in France for some time now.
Having said that, I'm moving this to Politics/History.

It's the disaffected youth becoming fed-up with authority.
Basically years ago France invited a bunch of North Africans (Algerians etc) into the country and gave them project-like towns just outside of the bigger cities to live in - At the time this was better than anything these people were currently living in, so they moved in voluntarily.
Over the years, the French government started to neglect these areas, and just recently cut spending on these ghettos in education and health etc, and when you do that, unemployment increases tenfold. There is a huge amount of unemployment in these areas, its crazy.
Kids go crazy and start rioting after just being fed-up and feeling like noone gives a shit about them. The government even said after this happened that they made a mistake and will increase spending on these areas to help solve the problem.

I don't get what you're saying....
Why not just say riots and save yourself a word?
It's not even really a race riot seeing as the people involved are of multiple races and are mainly just the poor living in these ghettos, and it wasn't necessarily instigated by race either, but more by economic situation coupled with location.

but isn't it minorities against caucasians? wouldn't that count as a race riot? And I think often times race and economic situation are close enough to be directly related

oOo: oOo: oOo:
I think the rioters are much more concerned about poverty and things of that nature. The people that live in poverty happen to be muslim. That doesn't make it a racr riot.

The Detroit RACE riots were directly a result of RACIAL issues. This is primarily a result of the government's economic neglect for ghettos in France. Only partially, if at all race-related.

So I guess they're not race riots because they are happening in France? People of color were invited to come to France and promised a better life. The French didn't provide the better life to the hoards that answered the call. I still say unchecked immigration is a bad idea.
