Default Gerv AKUMA !!! - 10-31-2005, 03:28 PM

Well, it is time for me to make a mini upgrade to my rig... My SD pc 133 ram = bottlenecking EVERYTHING.

I have decided on this mobo

Abit NF7-S2 (price is right) + it is the only daul channel ram board in this price range and it is local shipping so no dutys.

and

I need to make a choice for ram:

- OCZ 512Mb PC3200 DDR Value Series (OCZ400512V3) Timings:
3-4-4-8

66.99 Cad

or

- OCZ 512Mb PC3200 DDR Value Series (OCZ400512V25) Timings: 2.5-4-4-8

69.99 Cad $

or some value brand

512Mb DDR SDRAM Ram Module, PC3200 DDR memory for 400 FSB

54.99 $ Cad.

I plan on ocing my current 1800 + up a little more with this ram, hopefully up to 2200 + or 2400 + speeds. (using a volcano 9 for cooling).

THE only reason why i am making this upgrade is due to the fact that the bottleneck is way to much, my 9800 could not even score 7900 in 3D mark points in 2001SE..... fucking sad. COD lags to shit on high..., (it stutters every 5 seconds)... via 133 chipset = garbage. ... I have been holding out for to long, and I needed a good temp fix for something until next year when i can make my crossfire 1800 setup a reality.

Current = 1800 +, 768mb of PC 133, 160GB WD Cavier, Gigabyte 7ZXE mobo, 9800 All in Wonder with DDR 2, etc. ( i have been slowly uping the system.

WOuld you guys take the Nforce 2 chipset over the VIA equivelent or SiS equivelent ?

nF2 is definitely the way to go. That board is pretty good, also see if you can get the DFI nF2 board for a good price.

I'd go with either of the OCZ sticks. The one with the 2.5 cas is a little faster and since it's only $3 more, that would be the best bet,

hmm, I looked at the DFI board from tiger direct, From what I sasw I think it does not have Daul channel support, only 2gb max for ram and no sata support.... So I don't think Ill go for that one, although it was my second choice by 100 % in comparision to anything else, like biostar, MMC, Mercury, Chaintech, ECS ect.

Well I have made my choice on ram then . I am hoping this upgrade will let the flood gates open.
