Some are saying in a game where the real life events took the lives of 55 million+ this is nothing, others are saying becayuse it was civillian lives the author shouldn't release the map.
In bad taste?

Uuuum yeah, maybe if it were a little more accurate i.e. dead bodies laying around everywhere with it raining ash from the crematories. I would be mortified if one of my relatives was there.

he wants to make a map of auschwitz, where anywhere between 1.1 - 4.1 million people died (depending on what source you read), and your slating him.
Yet you'll all happily run around re-enacting a world war that claimed the lives of a estimated 55 million soldiers and civilians?[/quote:44634]
The quote KTOG got summarizes it all really. All the sudden gamers feel they have a moral obligation? Should have thought about what they were playing long before some controversy like this shows up.
So its okay to glorify war as long as you play people who were fighting? Playing Omaha is a good time because the slaughter there was considered fighting.
I don't have a problem with using the setting for a map as long as they don't go to lengths to exploit the atrocities that happened there (i.e. having dead prisoners everywhere).

yea no shit.
Maybe if I was setting up my portable mg on a mountain of jews I would have a problem.
Its a fucking game for fucks sake.
we have no problem playing in all these war torn cities where countless civilians were killed from air strikes and their lives ruined.

Also it would be cool if it had booby traps like go in a room and get burned up in a furnace/ Gassed to death.
Those maps from MOH and COD that had booby traps like that were fucking awesome.
There was a scary map for one of them I cant remeber but you started in a grave and went underground.
They had a bridge over a huge pit of lava, they had a room you could lock someone in and it had spiked ceiling that would crush them. It had parts of the floor you could open up and they would fall 100's of feet into a spike pit.
That map was fuckin cool

I don't see a problem with it, but I can understand why some people would. I see the point about complaining about Auschwitz and still playing war, but there is a difference between the Jews that were killed in the concentration camps and the soldiers who fought in the war, and you can't deny that difference. Now, that difference causing all this controversy, I don't quite understand. As long as it's made tastefully and doesn't take for granted what happened their or exploit it, it should be ok. They could even make it a fantasy mission where the allies have to assault the camp and free the prisoners or something along those lines.
