Default installing linux on a windows system - 06-26-2006, 04:05 AM

i've been thinking of doing this for a while now and i think it's finally time to make that step (lol, sounds like a damn marriage or something). im gonna try and install linux onto my pc. Now, i have about 70 free gb on the other side of my hd(partitioned) and i want to install it in that area only. Is this possible or would i have to do something else that would allow me to install linux? Also, how would i go about booting from windows or linux or vice versa?

now before you answer, i just wanted to poll you guys on how has your overall linux experience been? Is it really that much better than windows (with the exceptions of the "holes")?

I have a Linux computer. It sits in the basement. Every now and then I turn it on and play on it for a while.

Depending on the version of linux you go for it is usually in the setup it will direct you to set a size for the main partition then the swap file. One thing to beware is not everything will be supported for example if a lot of stuff is new drivers may not be compiled for it.

trust me you would have no fucking use what so ever for a linux system.

its really not hard at all to do ...

1. format drive
2. make a partition for windows of x size using fat ( large enough for windows and programs )
3. install windows
4. install linux ( depending on the linux you install it may or may not setup partitions for you, redhat, slackware, suse does, dunno about the others but chances are they do ).

you wont like it . its nice to fuck around with for a couple of days but not something youll want to use day to day.

os x = the only usable bsd based os ive ever tried.
