new pc -
08-20-2007, 04:50 AM
I don't know the exact model names as I'm not building it but:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz (so effectively 4.4ghz)
2 gigs Ram
250gb HD
Dvd burner
M'board supports Quad core which I'll eventually upgrade to in the future
I tried to get the 3ghz E6850 cpu but it was going to cost too much.
That came to £350 and he said if I order in the video card myself it would be much cheaper for me, so I need to find the cheapest and best site to buy an Nvidia 8800 GTS 320mb
Anyone know decent card manufacturers? BFG? Evga? etc....

2,2 dual core regardless of what some nubs may tell you does not = 4.4 ghz. I see this all the time on ebay with people selling quad core 3ghz systems saying its more or less a 12ghz system. eek:
How much for the 2.67 core 2? You realy want a bit mroe speed id say.
for the gts do a google product search for 8800gts 320, get a load of cheaper ones that way, evga nad bfg are both good.

Ah right, well I've asked lots of people about this cpu and all are very happy with its speed and performance. Especially how easy it can overclock to 3ghz
When I get it I may have to ask you about overclocking it eventually too, heh.
I'm not looking for a top of the range pc, I just want a solid pc that can run editing/photoshop type apps aswell as games well. I don't want super duper ultra high settings as I can't afford that.
This pc will be a beast at most games tho once I get the 8800gts in. It will eventually be upgraded over time, same goes for the cpu (to quad) and hard drive too.
The wheels are in motion now, in time prices will go down and I'll upgrade again but for my money, the price is fine. £300 without the video card.
I'll check kelkoo, etc for the 8800 gts 320mb tonight rock:

Just wondering, but is DDR2 ram now considered the norm or standard?
Hes installing 2GB of DDR533 hes written, hopefully hes made an error and forgot to put the 2 after the DDR....even if its not, I'd survive on normal DDR.
Also do you need a special case for 'Double-Wide' card as the 8800gts seems pretty big!
I'm about to pull the trigger on this card, jus need these questions answered pwease eek:

Double wide cards just mean the card will sit over the pci slot next to the pci express slot which happens with near all high end cards these days.
ddr533 is ddr 2 ram, slghtly slower varient but something you can change in the future.

dual core works the same as DDR, or is atleast the same concept. the work is split evenly between the divided processors, a 2.2GHz is really 2 1.1GHz if you want to look at it that way, the same as true DDR ram arrays are 2 sticks that add up to the 1 or 2 GB. Keep this in mind for future purchases. o and the quad is the same concept, the workload is just spread out.

Ah right, gotcha
Well the 2.2 cpu I just got will be getting overclocked to 3ghz as every single review I've seen writes that its very easy and very safe to clock it up to that speed, some have even pushed it to around 3.2 but 3 will do me. Temps at 3ghz was about 50 at full load, people said.
I may have to ask you sniper how I go about doing that if you have the patience or I'll have to google it like crazy happy:
