Default My unreal2 review. - 02-12-2003, 06:52 AM

First off I just want to say that I have no idea why people say this game is so bad. It's not THAT bad.

Graphics: With the new Unreal Engine, this game looks incredible. In my opinion is looks more polished and refined then UT2k3. The amount of detail on character's faces is amazing.
Perfect 10 out of 10.

Stability: I was surprised how high I could set the graphic, and it not lag on my reletivly low-end machine. I was playing at 800x600 with everything on medium execpt shadows(low) and skin detail(highest). I stay around 20-40 FPS throughout the game except when they are more than 1 auto-turret firing. Even then the screen is filled with fog and you are surrounded by 20-30 enemies all firing you, FPS doesn't drop much.
9 out of 10.

Gameplay: This is where the game starts to go downhill. They are only 8-9 levels so this game is relitivly short. Though they are extremely action packed. I beat it on normal in 4 days playing for 2-3 hours each day. Many of the levels are repetive, you are either breaking into an unbelievably heavy guarded building and stealing artifact; Covering an ally as they fix something or rescue them; or a defend-the-base type mission where you set up defences then just sit back and shoot anything that moves. Then between each level there is an 'interactive cut scene' that all you do is talk to your crew members and find out about new weapons/ missions.
5 out of 10.

Stroyline: Would have been better if they wasn't one... Here's the over-view. There are 7 'artifacts' of unknown power. Your company, another group of humans, and the Saaja or something are all trying to collect them. You must go from planet to planet collecting the artifacts. Thats all...
2 out of 10.

Weapons: Another great part of this game is the weapons. Very diversfied and detailed weapons. You have a pistol that new runs out of ammo, the standard assault rifle, a very powerful shotgun(best gun in the game?), a flamethrower, a 50cal pistol, a grenade launcher with 6 different types of grenades, a rocket launcher, a gun that shoots out spiders, a gun that shoots a railgun-like lazer, and a giant cannon that shoots glowing green balls at are instant-kills. Each weapon has its ups and downs.
Perfect 10 out of 10.

Enemies: U2 did pretty good with this too. When you start the game your only enemies are fast-moving, 4-legged, aliens with guns that fire lazers that will bounce around until they hit something; and the Saaja(sp?), giant gorilla-like aliens with 2ft metal claws on their wrists. Later in the game they shoot slow moving lazers at your. Through out the game you'll fight little yellow spiders, giant red spiders, other humans, and machine-like bugs. In most of the 9 or so levels you only fight other human which sucks.
8 out of 10.

Multiplayer: None.
0 out of 10.

Overall: A fairly solid game with great graphics and weapons; but a crappy storyline and no multiplayer.
Total points: 6.3
