Default layout election - 07-13-2004, 12:41 AM

I am going to be honest with you, that I'm having second thoughts about this election.

Let's see... what qualifies for gf1.com's layout?

4) The layout should be impressive, stands out and does not look like everyone else's.

3) The layout should be easy on the eyes. This is a content website people would actually try to read the words.

2) The layout should represent that we're a content and community-based, mil-shooters gaming website. This is not a historical website for WWII/Vietnam/Korean war, this is not aa.com covering just a single game series, and this is not an official website for a certain shooter game and really shouldn't look like one.

1) The layout should be practical. Now I understand not all of you have been a veteran Webmaster or are in the web bizz, but please understand that there are some layouts that don't "work well". This is, in fact, the most important factor to consider.

For example, won't work when the page gets longer, that's why I asked the author how it would look like with some content in it.

As much as I like the atmosphere, I don't see how the banner on the left would look like when the page gets longer. Are we repeating it or are we just going to leave that hanging in mid air? Or stuff a polling box (basically, some crap) below that?

I'd like to point out that as a content-based website, it would be tough, or basically non-practical for even aa.com, let alone gf1.com, to have a restriced height (short page); trying to fit everything into one screen is simply sucidial for the staffs; and call me old school but iframe = oOo:

If you look closely, there are a few layouts that don't seem "practical" in my book. Some have no place reserved for a menu, some have too little (narrow) space for the content. I just picked guarnere's and anon's as examples because the authors have clearly shown their talents and I'm somewhat eek: sure that they won't mind me commenting on theirs.

So bacially this is what I'm asking, that honestly, are you guys sure that you still want the mass to vote for the best layout? If so, we carry on, if not, I dictate. Poll will run till Wednesday.
