"To do otherwise would in all likelihood be to unnecessarily delay an election until the summer," Harper said.

The decision comes despite public opinion polls on the weekend that suggested the Liberals may be regaining some of the ground lost due to the sponsorship scandal.

personally i've heard the conservatives say the will listen to the people on whether or not to call a non confidence vote...although it doesn't really sound like theier listening very hard. on the other hand the liberals are trying to buy time to rebound. its true that the longer the wait for an election, the better it is for the liberals because people will not be as angry as there were last month.

all in all i think the election should wait until the gomery inquiry is finished. although it seems as though parliment can't get anything done. it would be nice if the parties could agree to move on with other things, and then once the gomery inquiry is finished have an election, but thats not going to happen, so perhaps an election would be a good thing.
