Do graphics matter in games? -

This seems to come up every so often usually between me and pyro so i'll make this poll on it. Do graphics matter?
I say fuck yes they do, the days of playing games where seeing a hexagonal wheel on a car are disappearing. A lot of the innovations in graphics in recent year have alot to do with making things seem more real.
Antialiasing being one example removing the ragged edges of 3d models, whens the last time in real life you noticed a guys face or arm had these jagged lines hanging off that you could cut yourself on?
It's all about immersion, trying to make you forget you're playing a game and trying to draw you into the world inside the game. The more real things look the more chance the game has of pulling that off.
Would you rather have this as an enemy in game:

If you said number one please go to your nearest museum, grab a medieval mace and slap yourself around the head with it several times.
Would you rather have this as the world your game is set in:

I think the pics speak for themselves, to me graphics make a ton of difference to games in general. Photorealism is the goal and its getting closer all the time, even this screenshot i took in hl2 from a small distance could easily be mistaken for a real life picture.
