Default Open Thread to MOHAA modding community II.... - 07-19-2005, 10:17 AM

Listen fellow modders;

i think we can all agree that mohaa is getting 'smaller'. anyone who's browsed the servers can atest to the numbers ( a lot of 0/30s etc). the fad of modders 'banding together" on a mom and pop type website (usually just a message board.....btw, no crack on anyone doing or having done this, i tried it to) seems to be fading also.

but yet, we still mod.

so here's an idea. instead of collecting a bunch of modders and making it one modding team where modders will drift in and out of the team like free agency; why not simply 'cross pollenize' ?

i've noticed a lot of modern maps going up, modders may be like me; tired of the european dated look with the personality of the map controlled by an era and less by the modders . so we begin creating maps of our hometowns, cities and destinations we know, allowing for more specifics leading (i think) into a 'little more' put into the maps.

so here's part of the thought: billboards are going up in maps again (started by the city nights/caskami boys). put'em to good use other than just a 'set piece'. if two modders are making two different city maps, contact each other and each modder create a billboard face texture to use on the other's map (could be a wall poster, who knows) much the same way modders/mappers used to put up the old 'wanted posters' of themselves to advertise themselves or a clan. if you have a skin texture that was created for a city, PM another city modder and see if the two of you can share the skin, with the other modder 'adjusting' the texture to fit his city (ie. a skin with one cities sports team jersey can become another cities sports team jersey but with the same goofy face etc.).

what's this going to do ?

it could lead to word getting out a lot faster. right now modders are loading up mod download sites and usually unless you know the name, need the map for a server or it has a specific word in the title; you may not download it; missed oppertunity. advertising in another map for your map and vice versa leads to at least double the exposure.

that's real cute phil but i like my maps to be all mine.

this is fine. this also allows for that 'lone modder' type. you get to make your map the way you want to without having to join another modding team, it's your map, your name BUT it's almost an open 'network'. example: you and another mapper agree to each put the other's billboard up in your maps and one of you mentions that the billboard will look real nice looking over the street with your car models on it. hey, you say; i need a car model. well friend, i'll let you have the car model if you for putting up the billboard/i'll let you have the car model if you put up another billboard/i happen to know a modder that has a couple. take that further and expand this idea and what if the model was a modern transit bus ? they use advertising signs on thier sides and backs........more space.

in the end; i know sometimes i run out of ideas for the 'goofy' billboard. why not use that open space to push your ideas ahead, draw together the modding community a little more and maybe give mohaa a little longer.

an idea only but ideas lead to more.
