Default Scott Killita Killed at NHRA Event - 06-21-2008, 10:11 PM

He's from right around where I live, His father owns a big air company in the town next to me and a family friend flew for them

his crash was horrific
http://youtube.com/watch?v=DziJdGwFQjU

"
When the engine let go, it exploded creating a fireball and breaking the body in half around the hood and windshield area. The body lifted off the car in flames and flew back as the car continued down the track. Replay shows a continued fire as the car slowed slightly but not enough. The parachutes were torched and did little to stop the car. The car continued down the track, went through the sand, over some dirt, through a fence, and hit the wall shooting the car into the air into hundreds of pieces. An immediate fireball enveloped the car as part landed in the woods and part appears to land on the camera tower."

RIP and condolences to his wife and children

wow thats horrible. RIP.

Not sure what killed him. The explosion or the crash at the end...but maybe if the parachutes were fire retardant (not even sure if that's possible), they would have slowed the car down more and the impact wouldn't be as great at the end of the track and save a life one day i a similar situation.

He was born in Mount Clemens and his family's air business is out of Ypsilanti.

My buddy was there at Englishtown this weekend so i'm sure he saw the wreck. He was also at the track when Blaine Johnson lost his life back in '96. There's a risk that all drivers know and hope not to have happen to them.

They need a more crash freindly barrier @ the end. Concrete Barrier + Sandbags = not so smart.

Fun Fact: I found out one of my Aunt's dated him for awhile before marrying my uncle.
