Default HIGH PINGERS - 12-05-2002, 09:23 AM

GOT a problem with high ping-there is one thing u can try-isp ussally have a few diffrent phone numbers that connect you try diffrent ones -ive noticed with msn that one of there numbers also connects webtv with the same number since ive ditched those numbers ive seemed to have lowered my ping- also tweak your machine-----dslreports.com---------goto tools section and run some tests--ive been able to keep my ping down to about 225 witch is fine for most servers- allthough if you are a true gamer i would suggest gettin broadband-i do have broadband comin here along with a another system soon---(server)-ita actulally cheaper for me to have broadband etra phone line is expensive

actualy its your connection speed. If you have 56k your gonna have a high ping, isdn same as 56k, dsl better lower ping around 100 and below, cable in the 30's-70's and so on and so forth.

Just because you have cable it doesn't mean you're guaranteed to have a ping between 30 and 70. There are other factors involved, such as how busy the server is, the memory (RAM) on the server machine, distance from the server, et cetera.

Pretty much the only way for you to reduce your ping is to shut off any other programs you have running that use the internet in any way. Ignoring that, you could get a new ISP, since a lot of ISPs these days have a throttle in place, meaning your max speed is limited. Some don't, though.
