HudKiller Mod. -
05-22-2003, 12:07 AM
Here is my latest creation. I present to you, the HudKiller.
This mod disables every client's hud every 1/10th of a second. If you are running some kind of tactical realism mod on your server, this addition would fit right in. I tested this mod with several folks, and there was no additional lag with the mod running.
This mod is strictly serversided, however there is one con. That con would be that you have to install the .pk3 into the server's /main folder to enable the mod, and remove the .pk3 to disable the mod. I tried making it toggleable via a new cvar, but that failed. Maybe at a later date I will be able to work this problem out.
For now, I need a bit of sleep, so I will post the mod whenever I get up.
Thanks.

Eh, what exactly is the purpose of this mod? I mean, why should the hud disappear every 0.1 s. In my opinion this is neither functional nor will it be a nice experience?
Enlighten me, bitte.

The way I see it, the complete HUD disappears every tenth of a second. Also the crosshair. I think it will be annoying, or did I not understand MPowells post correctly?
Mr0blongo: You can disable the complete HUD yourself. In your case, a dream come true.

Tiwaz, this dosent turn the hud on and off every 1/10th of a second. This simply loops that fast so that if a player comes along an tries to turn his hud on again, he won't be able to. While the hud is off, it stays off. It dosent flicker every 1/10th of a second.
And yes, it gets rid of the crosshairs. It gets rid of everything but text.

As I said before, this is serversided. This is for admins who run a realism mod and want to make it more realistic for their clients on the server.

Ah, ok, I did not get that. It just switches it off so often that turning it on 'will not work', since it immediately is turned off again.
That makes sense for people who want to host a server without HUD.
In that case: Nice job.
I personally like the HUD (but with everything smaller, no bullets etc.), but I can understand why some people would like it disabled.

Very nice idea for ultra-realism. One question: How does one possibly aim in MoHAA without a crosshair?
In reality, you'd look through the sights, but seeing as though you can't do that in the game, I'm curious to know how one intends to hit anyone. I know I wouldn't be able to...I suck WITH a crosshair. I can't imagine doing without one.

I have never played without crosshair, but with a spray gun it shouldn't be that hard. Don't pay much attention to the crosshair then anyway.
With the (sniper) rifle I would have a major problem...

Basically, you would have to get the guy in the center of the screen. It really isnt that difficult, usually only with rifles. I tested this with a guy last night, and we both used rifles, and you would be amazed at how much you can still hit him without a crosshair. Even without ironsights, it still makes it 10x more realistic to play. This mod would seperate the MGwhores with the real men. lol

Very cool, man. I'm sure it's not an impossible feat. I'm strictly a rifleman, so it'd definitely be more of a challenge.

Hmm, still amazed how much you can hit with the rifle huh? Maybe I ought to try playing without the crosshair then.
What's the command for disabling it? Or do you use the remove-HUD command and is there no way to disable just the crosshair?

The command for the crosshair only is ui_crosshair 0.
