Default Server admins tell me what you think of this idea - 08-23-2002, 08:26 AM

I purpose a new map mod and skin pk3 naming format

Here is a link to the original post in another forum. Just to see what the replies from the m/m/s guys look like.
http://www.alliedassault.com/phpBB2/vie ... 884#244884
Here is the post:

Most of you might not know I own and admin the AA.com dedicated game server

It's a pain in the butt when I have to go looking for a map mod or skin

What I propose is. A naming system that will easily identify your type of pk3 file. This is just the
name of the pk3 file and does not have anything to do with the internal name.

Something along the lines of this

Maps can be broken down into two types:
user-map-obj-map_name.pk3
user-map-TDM-map_name.pk3

skins:
user-skins-skin_name.pk3
mods:
user-mod-mod_name.pk3

This way when you list the main dir. you will see all your files in groups.

This will make the job of admins easier thus giving the admin more time to monitor his/her server.

Let me know what you guys think.

Here is an example of the before and after ftp listing

How maps are labled now:
[code:3f3b8]Allied_101's_airborne.pk3

I think this makes the admins job a lilttle easier. I'm not asking for them to start changing the internal compressed map mod or skin name just the pk3 name

I've been doing that since day one. Dammit, I should have suggested it and gotten all the credit.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could use sub-directories?

I'm 1/2 of an admin, since I rarely run a server, so I get say! heh

Anyways, yes this system would sort out what .PK3 did what alot easier. I guess since people can slack, it would be up to the file administrator (Dodd) to rename the files. The names would be hella longer, but yes, sorting would be much easier in this format.

I am working on getting this as a submission requirement and it looks good.
More info will follow.

We would only need the top 2 or 3 site to implement this simple format

Thanks wolf man.

The TMT guys are already on the band wagon and I have not received a response from PMOH.

I posted it in the correct forum and I don't think anyone seen it yet.
(mod section)

Please do spread the word,

Thanks again

Not being an admin nor even sure what you're talking about, but being a "mature" person who gets confused easily I can state that a little organization never hurt anything. oOo: biggrin:
