Default sv_allowdownload. What is the deal? - 09-03-2002, 07:19 PM

Ok, so I've been fighting with this command for quite some time. I've tried all variables incluting set, +set, seta, etc... But it doesn't seem to work. I've heard from many people, other than people here, that it doesn't work. But then I turn around and see configs that still have the sv_allowDownload command in them. If it doesn't work, why bother? If this game runs over the Quake III engine, then why does the command work there, but not here? Is this something that will be patched? Is there some secret that I'm missing here? I've gone as far as to taking note of every .cfg file that the console loads at startup and adding sv_allowDownload 1 to everyone of them, thinking that just maybe, one was overriding the other somehow. There has not been an answer given to me by a reliable resource stating one way or the other. All I know is that I can't get it to work.

So, in short, does the command work or not? If so, how do you get it to work? If not, when will it work?

I'm sick of providing map packs for all of my LAN party guests. The server I use can handle the extra bandwidth so I'd rather just have a command that allows them to grab the file when they join the server.

Thanks.

Sorry no,
That command is one of many. That was not implemented in the final game. MP was a last minute project for MOH. This game was not intended to have MP.

God only knows what would have happened to this game if it had no MP. Does The Dirty Dozen ring a bell.

Hopefully we will see some of these "broken" switches in the exp

Thank you! That's all I wanted to know.

I just hope that if they fix anything, that allowdownload would be it. Joystick support would be a nice touch too, but that's another story.

Thank you!

The joystick is a different story,
you can use a joystick in game

[quote:fd36c]-I don't see the option, but can I use a joystick to play the game? – Yes. Start MOHAA. Enter you console by pressing the tilde key (the ~ key, next to the number 1). Enter
code:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
in_joystick 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
, and press enter. You will now be able to map your buttons to your game pad. [/quote:fd36c]
Or just check out the faq in general discussion.

I'm not sure, and I never bothered to try as I don't have the bandwidth for it but the linux server might support it. It has one command (at least) that the windows version doesnt support. sv_chatter..... this allows your logfile to record all the chat. This can be usefull when parsed for swear words if you're not their to kick yourself and/or don't have the chat filter. You can simply add the names to a banned list if they cuss too much.
