The summer usually is a slow news period, the media heard about Elizabeths kidnapping and decided that they were going to cover it(along with a few others) as the Summer of Abduction. Like the year befores Summer of Shark Attack, but at least she got back safe.

she was also kidnapped from the inside of her home while her parents slept..it wasnt like she was out somewhere..so it was a different circumstance

This is where I'd have to agree with you guys about American and world media...

Fucking spamming the shit outta the news about ONE girl who was kidnapped. For christ sake, they could use that news time for other shit.

Sure, one girl being kidnapped is a tragedy, but there are tons of other shit that should make the news.

Heh, my girlfriend told me about this last night, she said her teacher interupted her class whith the news, she said he started crying halfway through telling the class.

You really do have to wonder what happened to her during all thoe months.

Yep, but remember, the medias goal is to sell. They were able to sensationalize this one and make it sell. Its not about fairness, or whats the most deserving of attention, its about sales. The american media is moving more and more away from the ideals once held by the press and becoming more and more driven by the dollar. Report first, make corrections later.

Remember the networks reporting gore as teh winner in florida before the polls were even closed? Or how about when abc (maybe nbc) got caught faking explosions in truck crash tests to create a story?

Why did OJ get more press than other murders, or the Jean benet rmasey case? They had qualities that sell. I was a bit annoyed when the press on this case got so big, but its the nature of the beast.

At least this one had a happy ending. I know her parents have to be on top of the world right now.
