Actually, I know next to nothing about soccer/football. I just said that because West Ham is Steve Harris's (bassist for Iron Maiden) fave team.

I see no one finished this thread... I wonder why... Oh, perhaps it's because they actually managed to beat them in the game? 4-3 United.

United were well beaten over two legs, but only lost to the world's best team by one goal.

Hard to take the piss out of that biggrin:

Real Madrid were consumate at times. A world class act, that's for sure. Unbeatable? Not really. But damn you have to outscore them to beat them there's no other way about it.

The difference between them and United comes down to this: They don't miss very often.

United had enough chances to win the game by 2-3 goals but missed a lot of their chances. You can't afford to do that at European level and they don't deserve to go through.

Madrid were average in defence but damn are they out of this world in attack.

They had, what, 5 real chances in the whole match (I don't class Ronaldo's 3rd goal as a chance, that was pure class). They scored 3 of them.

United had over 10 chances and only managed 4 (only? lol).

Not good enough.

Honestly, I find it difficult to take the piss out of a team who represent the only British threat in this competition. Especially when they beat Real Madrid once and Juventus twice in a season.

Name me another British team who are close to them in European competition and I'll have something to take the piss out of. Real would have torn any other British team to shreds in this tie and you know it.

United did themselves proud. Losing by only one goal.

No wonder this thread died out before the game finished.

Funny.

haha, yeah whatever.

I went offline and played operation flashpoint while the game was on. hence why i never updated the thread.
I dont give a two hoots that untied won the game, the ones smiling at the end were of course Real Madrid. They go through, united dont. simple as that.
Maybe youre one of the tpyes who likes the fact a British team was playing, but personally i dont. Its man u vrs real madrid. i dont support teams because of their country in an european tournament.
It was an entertaining game, goals aplenty. and its cool because united LOST.

Agreed, that's what I said. I also saw a lot of smiles from United players too, though. They may have lost but they gave it a good fight. If United were in their league they'd have taken 3 points from them out of 6. Not bad.
[quote:61a1c]
Maybe youre one of the tpyes who likes the fact a British team was playing, but personally i dont.[/quote:61a1c] No, I actually started supporting United when I was very young because at the time I would watch them play with my step dad who suported them. Ever since then I've enjoyed watching them play because, like them or loathe them, they do play some very enjoyable to watch football.

So, no, I was hoping United could perform a miracle. They didn't but hey, they are still a cut above any other team that the Scottish or English leagues have produced for a decade. And they didn't reach that goal by simply buying their way to success either ( -cough Real -cough-). Their youth policy is one of the finest and that's another reason I like them.

I do cheer on any British team and am happy when any does well. But, when they do poorly in Europe and bow out I have a good laugh still like you do. I just don't go as far as to make a whole thread about it on a message forum on the internet biggrin:

A lot of people hate United because they are succesful. Just like a lot of people hated Liverpool when they were. Just like, if Arsenal still manage to win the double-double, they too will be hated.

It's sad. Jealousy of something you have no control over.

I admired Arsenal last year. They were clearly the best team in England. At the moment though, they ain't. They have 5 games to rescue their campaign but on recent form they don't deserve to. It'll be an interesting last few weeks.

I also have admired Celtic this year in Europe. It may be a second string competition but they've shown they can mix it with Premiership teams and do well. Good on them. I hope they go on to win it.

It's just a game. Some people take it a little too seriously. I do, however, like to watch good football and we got that tonight in abundance.

[quote:61a1c] Its man u vrs real madrid. i dont support teams because of their country in an european tournament.[/quote:61a1c] Cool, I guessed that already.

[quote:61a1c]It was an entertaining game, goals aplenty. and its cool because united LOST.[/quote:61a1c]

It was a very good game. Sad thing is you'd not have found it so cool if they "WON".

Who do you support, prey tell?

Hehe, you have more of a claim to support them than I do United then biggrin:

If I had supported my local team where I was born I'd be supporting Suton United in the conference leagues.

I've been about a bit though... Ended up in Nottingham and a father to be. Such is life.
