It's really too bad about MOH:AA. It's a fun game and the multi-player does play very well. However, without a dedicated server Linux port, this game will whither and die for on-line play.
I'm not trying to get people pissed off at me about this, if anything, you should all be pissed at EA. According to some information that I've received, 2015 really can't do much about a Linux port unless EA gives them the order to do so.
Givin EA's not so stellar past involvement with on-line games, I'm sorry to say that a Linux port will probably never happen. As a direct consequence, there will never be many big hosting companies running servers for MOH:AA. (Every server admin that I know runs strictly Linux and wouldn't put a Windows machine up as a game server if their life depended on it.) And it will never reach a level of servers even remotely close to 1000 servers (or more) that a game really needs to be long lived.
If you look at the stats on Gamespy.com (love 'em or hate 'em, they got some useful information on that site) you can see that right now, there are only 242 MOH:AA servers up and running. There are also 226 DEMO servers running. Currently, we can only hope to reach about the same status as Tribes2 and MOH will probably top out at about 600-700 servers and reach no where near the status of Wolfenstein or even UT.
Mods are nice, and it's good to have a community that will make them readily for a game, but without Linux server support (which, by the way would be almost a no brainer as it's a Quake 3 engine game) MOH is doomed to be a B level title. Even though it's a much better game than most of the ones that are above it in the server rankings.

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>so what are you disagreeing with? he simply is saying give us the option to run servers under a superior servering OS and you will get alot more GOOD servers.
they need to fix the windows server first.
but i disagree, ea as far as i know doesnt own 2015. EA publishes the game but doesnt tell 2015 what to do. i dont see why EA would have a problem with 2015 porting the dedicated server over to linux, it cant be hard every q3 engine game has one.
judging by the current state of the windows dedicated server and the complete lack of interest by 2015 in fixing the windows server. I dont think the problem is with EA at all. I think 2015 either has a deal with gamespy or they are just lazy.
if an employee of 2015 wants to come on here and tell me different fine. Until then ill think whatever i want.
EA owns this game now. They tell 2015 what they can and can not do with the game 2015 programmed. It's up to EA to tell 2015 they need a patch the windows server code or a port to Linux.
Legally 2015 can't just start writing code for a game they sold the rights to EA. Unless it was in there contract??
Dont need Linux if u have XP.
Wiat till the official MP severs for Europe are available .
When the demo came out we had same complaints until main servers were up. Wish we had intelligent thought provoking posts rther than hyperbolic drivel.
Fed up of peeps dissing a game even before its officially out....ofr illedicated reasons.
The REASON why we want linux standalone serveres is to run servers..
It does not matter if the game rocks everybody if there's to few servers to play on.
More people have access to a Linux server on the Net than Windows servers, it's just a fact.
One of the resons is that Linux servers are simpler to remote manage.
so..If MOHAA is to have a PROPER life, they need as many servers as possible.
And the simple way of doing this i making a Dedicated linux server.
I HOPE EA and 2015 sees this..I mean it's in their intrest to have as many playing as possible, so they can sell as many copies as possible, so limiting the server to only windows is a well..STUPID decision.
So here's to a Linux Dedicated Server soon!
cheers!
You know it's sad... I honestly cant believe there is no linux servers for MOHAA. The problem with this for me is that I run LightSpeedGaming.com and want to host MOHAA Servers.
What really sucks is that unless theres a way to get linux servers running you will see an increase in hosting prices by existing hosting companies for this game.
Now I for one want to run this game, i love the gameplay, i love the mp and sp games. However Id prefer not to have to charge extremely high prices to run this server because on windows it decides to eat up 40% or more of Resources.
For now all I'll say is this... we will run MOHAA that will be a fact. However if they just made it available for linux we would be a whole lot happier.
