Since the Anti Sniper Petition is already 5 pages long, I think I have zero chance to be read there. So I'll just try here. For those who agree with my opinion, just say so. For those that disagree...please give me arguments for counter, not insults.

Okay, to the point:

As I understand it, every Beach map every made, for any MP game is plaqued by snipers.
I guess for some games you could say this for all maps, but in this WW2 stuff, it is generally anoying about every map that tries to recreate D-Day.

D-Day...that is all about storming up a Beach with MG Fire pounding the sand next to you...hearing bullets riochet from the Hedgehogs, while you try to bury yourself in the sand in the seek for cover. It is about beeing afraid as an allies player...being so very afraid that you dont even want to stand up and sprint to the next cover.

Now, if there's an overuse of snipers, hiden somewhere in the water, or on other ungodly places you will NOT see this happen. Because MG Gunners will die the instant they touch their guns.

Of course Axis can counter snipe...but that isn't the point. That takes away from the "run and dive for cover" fun you expect from a D-Day Map.

Some will say now" the real ppl at D-Day couldn't vote snipers out...stop bitching".

For those that argument along this lines, some facts:

1) Snipers wheren't widely used in WW2, except for the russian army.

2)Sniping with a real rifle needs a lot more theory and knowledge than MoH brings across. All it needs in MoH is to move a crosshair over a head and click the mouse. In real life you wouldn't have such an easy time picking off those gunners.

3)Personal accounts from allied Soliders who survived D-Day all agree on one point...it felt VERY pointless to fire at those bunkers from the beach. One guy descriped them as "mammothish". Like fighting a Jurrasic Monster. NHard to see anyone in them. No point in staying at the beach and trying to shoot someone. Did that every happen in the SPR movie (which is one of the most realistic recreations of D-Day I think).

So, in conculsion, to allow for more funny and realistic game play, this game really needs a sniper limit. Everthing else turns one of the most horrific battles ever fought into a frag fest for your home computer.

Sidenote: As far as I know, DoD Beta 2 will have NO axis and only ONE allies sniper at the new Beach Maps. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

PS: If you have arguments against this opinion, just reply. If you will call me a moron and ask me to "counter them" I'll ignore your post, for reasons outlined above.

Thanxs

RS

Moron...just counter them...

Seriously though, I can respect what you said and it was very well thought out and presented. I personally like it the way it is. Now that does not mean I would never play a mod that made it more realistic though.

i use the sniper rifle as my weapon of choice but i agree that it needs some limitations.
the best thing i can come up with is a mod to add "weave" to the scope. something subtle so long rage sniping is made very difficult but not impossible.

Who here has played OFP?

With THAT sniper system you would have a hard time hitting. It has wooble, realistic bullet flight times, and drop from gravity.

Add to that that you would be shaken around from the mortars going off everywhere on the beach. If they could add something like this you would see one, maybe two good snipers on each side. The rest would give in and start playing with other weapons.

It is like you read my mind. I'm thinking, since you can't in SP, that they should have some sort of sheild that the axis could fire out, but the allies could not fire in. If that is possible it would be more fun because the allies would actually have to run in and clear the bunkers. I mean i always play allies, and it is just no fun not having to dodge anything. Maybe someone will make a map that answers our prayers.

To fix this sniper problem have all the begaining starting points for the axis by the bunker machine guns. This way the beach will be covered by bullets like the real thing. In real life the axis were already on their guns shooting so lets do that in the MP game.

I wont call you a moron, but I will tell you to grow up. This isnt a realistic game - it wasnt meant to be. If it was you wouldnt have jack-asses running around with bazookas firing them off while having the ability to bob-and-weave. I have NEVER played as an ALLY so I know what it feels like to get sniped as soon as I grabbed a MG - I remember the first time, and you know what I did - I said 'fu*ck this, time to find another way'. And you do. If you limit snipers - what stops them from grabbing a bazooka and just sending rockets to the bunkers - they'll hit something eventually....and then you ban zooks. All so that it can make playing the map funner for YOU.

Sorry, but I'll take realism up to a certain point. After that it becomes AS annoying as you say this beach is.

As far as there being VERY FEW snipers - lol. Yea ok. How did you take out the gunners in between the bunkers in SP again???

Just returned to this topic again..."This isnt a realistic game"...yes, right.

But then, why bother making a realistic looking D-Day map? If this game is meant to be a frag fest you could use every map...
As long as people associate D-Day with this Beach map it should be realistic, as in "close to the actual D-Day".

The bazooka whoring is the greatest shame ever to hit this game. It makes it absolutly clear that this is a Q3 DM engine hidden behind WW2 models.

As for the "very few snipers"...yes, thats how it was. The allies had hardly a chance to shoot back from the beach.

I've already responded to this so-called debate in the "petition" thread, so if you want my opinion on it, read my posts there (i'm sure none of you will). What i would like to comment on is this senseless bickering. Those who haven't responded to these threads have probably already realized, as i'm sure you all will too, that no matter how much you kick and scream, you CANNOT change people's minds. Your petty fact-reporting and futile WWII movie referencing does nothing to sway the opinions of those you are trying to persuade. So lets all give up this argument and enjoy the game as it is now. Sooner or later, some modder will come up with an alternative; half of the gaming community will love it, the other half will hate it. Until you actually enlist and fire a REAL weapon against a REAL enemy, NOTHING will EVER be as REALISTIC as some of you want it. SO LETS JUST ENJOY THE FREAKIN GAME?!?!
p.s. If you want to bitch and moan about cheaters and/or un-cooperative gameplay though, your comments are welcome!
