i'm not sure if everyone can afford $6,000/yr for private christian schools.
Do you all think that putting God in a poem is really something terrible? Why do people make such a big deal about these things?

In Alberta there is a Public school system and a seperate school system. The seperate school system teaches religion in school and isn't more expensive or any different from the public school system. You only have to have 1 christian parent. Maybe you guys should start something like that.
If she were muslum and she had put allah in it, there would be a big fuss also.
There's nothing terrible about it, it's just trying to be sensitive to everyone. Religion isn't taught in public schools because all religions go there. pretty simple to me.
and the whole thing with calling it christmas, who cares? i don't give a fuck what you call it. why should it bother me? you guys are losing sleep over nothing.
North America is a melting pot. it isn't 16th century france or england.

how are those religious schools funded? Are then ran by normal tax dollars?
|
If you support the public school system, your tax dollars go to the public system. If you support the seperate school system, your taxes go to the seperate system.
In canada we also have a thing called government subsidies. Something conservatives don't like too much. The government of Alberta puts money into education, both public and seperate. The public system gets a lot more tax dollars and government money because more people are in the public system.
Just so you know I went to a seperate school for my entire school life. I took religion in school for 13 years. The quality of education in the seperate system is also better than in the public system, or so they say, so if I had the choice, i'd send my kid to the seperate system, and tell them to make their own mind up about religion.
The thing I don't like about christian schools is that kids are impressionable. if you tell them something for 13 years, more than likley they are going to believe it, and not really think for themselves. That is what i'm afraid of, and thats the only thing I don't like about that system.[/quote:2f1b1]
Agreed.
