Default Dedicated Server Lag - 08-12-2002, 11:51 PM

When i start a dedicated server using xaviers dedicated server setup everything is great until someone joins then there is about 10 seconds of wild lag and then everything is fine. If i start a non dedicated server that doesnt happen. I set the server to 12 peeps ( i have adsl so figure it should handle it ) sv_maxping 300, i try to keep the server at 125 ish, sv_maxrate 8000
I dont seem to be able to bring up prior posts on this topic so have to ask.

Well my upload speed was 761 kbps (good to know ) so 12 peeps would be too many for that maxrate setting ?? but i also played with that setting already ( i tried 6000 and lower ) and still had that lag

Any other ideas ?

thnx for the help

Run the server and use the program from http://www.dumeter.com
What I do is stretch the graph across the screen so I can monitor the UL/DL for about a minute or so.
