Default D00M 3 prob - 05-07-2005, 11:01 AM

I got Doom 3 as a sort of belated birthday prsent. Its pretty good, but my framerate killed The pope! Seriously, even with all the vid and sound qualty turned down to minimum, I still get a worse FPS than I got in HL2 with maximum vid settings. How can I improve the framerate?

I had doom 3 before I upgraded my PC and was unplayable due to lag. I was able to play HL2 though.

Chances are you'll have to upgrade your graphics card.

Okay, update. I killed all the advanced stuff, like bumpmapping and shadows, turned antialiasing off, etc. It plays much better now, tho still comparably slow. My system meets the requirements, but barely. Its still quite jumpy in places, like when I dare shoot/get shot at, but is at least playable. This game is pretty scary, I thought it was all hype. There have been a few times when I've had to pause, turn the lights on, and take a few deep breaths. The random voices, with surround sound, are very effective. I liked the martian buddy website touch, very interesting idea. However, the chain gun sucks. Waiting for it to charge up is a killer.

What are your specs? I had to get "modded" drivers for my Radeon 9500 video card that made it equivalent to a 9700. That alone made a world of a difference. The game was quite playable and only lagged for a sec during a hellish battle with alot of bad guys. Keep tweaking and testing it using 3D Mark 03 or something equivalent to that to see if you're getting any improvements after every tweak.

Funny someone should mention not playing either game....i have HL2 installed and only played about 2 hrs worth....i just don't care to log onto steam everytime i want to play. Also, i think the game sucks. Not worth the trouble. Hey, anyone wanna buy HL2 from me?

It's simple... Doom 3 is incredible stressing on your system... HL2 isn't...

The end.
