Default How Do I Set Up a Dedicated Server - 08-19-2002, 10:31 AM

I have a server with a static IP where i work, Since I'm the network guy, I can use it for a dedicated MOH server if I want. It's running a business class cable connection (much higher thruput than just the residential home cable services). Do, I just install MOHAA on the server, and start a multiplayer game?? Currently I host thru my home PC, but that isn't good for much more than 7 players. Just for fun, I clicked on Dedicated Server from home, but it won't even start the game, I'm forced to use gamespy. How do I get around this??

If you start the game in dedicated mode, you won't be able to play on the same PC. That's all you will get is the console window in dedicated.

You could install the game at work, click on dedicated and leave it at that. Set your maps, time limit, etc. But I suggest you checkout this guide for starting dedicated servers:

It will get you started on writting configs, what some of the commands mean and most importantly, how to RCON (remote console) your server.

It's a great guide for getting started, and there is tons of info on these message boards with helpful server admin stuff. There will be firewall issues, but you being the network guy you should be able to figure that part out, I'm no good with that stuff...

Good luck!
