Default Chat Filter V1.1 - 08-28-2002, 11:47 PM

I plan on releasing the newest version of the Chat Filter to the public soon, hopefully by this weekend. Before I do, I would like some feedback from users; what words I may of missed (You can type them here, but just make sure to use an * where appopriate. For example type *sshole, please. If you'd rather, just PM me.), or just general tips that would make the script better for use.

I plan on keeping the script so that no one can edit it except myself & soccerdevil. So, if you want to add any info to the localization file, such as a MOTD, custom death messages, etc, just email me what you want changed, and I'll send you a modified version of the script. All of this will be included in the readme file.

I'm trying to concentrate on plural curses in this new version, along with words that end with punctuation marks. Hopefully, I won't have to spend a whole lot of time adding line after line because someone uses 15 peroids to curse, heh. But hey, that's the only disadvantage of the script. Like I said, please PM/Email/Respond to me with any info! biggrin:

I know some people cheat the filter by using this formula:

"_Fu*k"

_=SPACE

Anyway, i was thinking of other words like the sh*tter, i'm not sure if pr*ck is one. Um... i'll try to think of some others, but i think i'm having a brain fart right now.

By plural I mean I only blocked words like *ss, sh*t, and f*ck. I totally forgot about *sses, sh*ts, f*cks, etc. So, I'm adding all of those as well.

As for cheating the filter, the only ones that I might add to this 1.1 are words ending or beginning with:
.
..
...
!
!!
!!!
?
??
???
?!
!?
,

So, just put a dirty word before or after those marks, and it will be blocked basically. This will take time, but like I said, hopefully it will be done by this weekend.

Nah! Why would jerk be a bad word to be blocked? If anything, it should be used as a cover-up words like ghey.

no, the word should be TOTALLY different, if they type 'gay' it says 'ghey' but you still know the meaning of it ...

Should be something not to do with it like when you type 'gay' that it says 'window' it messes up their whole sentence 2 ! biggrin:

if there's a space in between words, it dosen't matter. If they put f*cking n00bs, it will say ducking n00bs.

*tch (maybe also 'b*atch') (Both already blocked)
*sshole (already blocked)
whore (might not block, dunno yet)
retard ???
jerk ???
nerd ???
STFU ???

Why would I block those, they aren't curses.

Joe, I just wanted to say thanks for this idea and for pulling it off. We use it on the Team GroundXero server and it sure makes our job as moderators a lot easier. Of course, one of the things we have to do now is to threaten people who constantly try to go around the profanity filter. It's like a game for the more demented. But even considering the morons out there this has been a great thing for us.

I do have a question though about not being able to edit the file in the upcoming version. I am just curious about why this is being implemented. I would guess that without the ability to actually edit the file we probably won't upgrade to the newer version. As it is, we can go in and add words and even change the word it goes to if we don't like that word. This is very much needed and so I am a little disappointed if I read your post correctly.

Thanks again for doing this!!

This is simply because I don't want anyone really just downloading the file and editing it. I want to keep it so that people don't have to open it, therefore they won't know exactly how it works. Yes, there are easy methods to edit this file, but not everyone knows how to do it. This is why I keep the file protected.

How about some other words like

cheater
aim bot
aim butt

These get old rather quick.

When someone says"Your a cheater " = "Your a very good player! I wish one day I can play as good as you"

Or something along those lines. That would really upset the cry babies biggrin:

Default DAMN FINE PROGRAM JOE - 08-29-2002, 04:32 PM

i run your program on my server and it works great...as for cheating the program ...when i see DUCK hit the screen i warn the palyer about the language rule in my game..if i see another subsituted word..HES GONE...by the time he figures out theres a language guard ruuning hes usually kicked and banned before the thought occurs to find a way around it...it just gives me the ability to kick the guy before he can use unwanted words on my server...some of the regulars will only let there kids play on my server cause they know its tightly controlled...this program has only helped to make my server a better place then before,,,THANKS AGAIN JOE...BUTCHER
