So, I'm playing HL2 single player yesterday and all of a sudden I smell this strong smell that I only recognize as one thing...overheating/frying electronics.

It's that plastic-y, ozone smell that just won't go away. I didn't know where it was coming from at first. I sniffed around the computer itself...nope, not that. I smelled around the top of my 17" CRT and whoa momma...very strong smell. So, I can only assume that something is frying inside the monitor. Joy.

I'm sure playing HL2 for the first time then smelling my monitor smoldering was only coincidence, but I blame it on Gordon Freeman! The spectacled fucker!!

Needless to say, I'd like some advice on a new monitor. I'm trying to keep it under $300 CDN. I might go with a 19" CRT, as the LCD monitors are still a tad too pricey for anything 17"+.

Any suggestions?

Have a sniff around for a Mitsubishi 930SB. You should be able to get one dirt cheap because they're a few years old now. If you google for some review of it you'll see that it's highly rated.

I got a ViewSonic E90FB 19" CRT. It's such an improvement! I'm finding it a bit weird to adjust to gaming as I have more screen to scan. heh heh

I'm looking for a new monitor, prefereably 19" and I want to spend $275 or lower possibly.

I'm looking at this Acer

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824009067

It's 8ms, is that good for gaming or is that terrible? I've read LCD's aren't good for gaming, but I've never used one for gaming, seen one being used for gaming, so I can't decided whether to just stick with a CRT.

8ms is good for gaming 16ms or lower usually gives no ghosting in gaming, my older lcd monitor is a 16ms version and ive never noticed any ghosting.
